locations reached 40–42°C on June 21. Paris and 34 French departments issued
highest-level red heat warnings on June 21; red alerts cover more than one-third
of metropolitan France, with local temperatures forecast to hit about 41°C on
June 22. Italy’s meteorological service reported inland highs of 39°C on June
21.
