Shanghai party secretary Chen Jining met Sanofi global CEO Ge Lihe and HSBC
chair Nie Zhiheng. He urged Sanofi to leverage Shanghai’s strengths in basic
research, talent, market scale and policy support to increase local innovative
R&D, place more innovation and global-simultaneous development projects in
Shanghai, and deepen cooperation with domestic biotech firms to strengthen the
city’s pharmaceutical ecosystem. He asked HSBC to use its global network and
expertise to deepen cooperation on tech finance, green finance, urban renewal,
cross-border and offshore finance, and support firms’ outbound activity, and to
provide input as Shanghai refines a regulatory framework suited to an
international financial centre.
