South Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said some Korean vessels trapped
in the Strait of Hormuz have begun departing but declined to disclose details,
citing crew safety, shipowners’ requests and the high-risk nature of the waters.
The strait has been blocked since late February after the outbreak of the Middle
East war; 26 Korean ships were trapped. Following a US-Iran peace agreement
earlier this month two Korean vessels have already left; the ministry did not
say how many are leaving now, so the number still in the strait is unknown.
