Apple said on Thursday it has raised iPad and MacBook prices after it could no
longer absorb soaring memory and storage chip costs driven by AI data-center
buildouts. The company said the changes do not affect the iPhone, its primary
profit driver. The move highlights that even the world’s largest
consumer-electronics firm is exposed to the memory-price squeeze that has dimmed
smartphone and PC demand outlooks. Memory makers such as Micron have prioritized
orders from AI chipmakers including NVIDIA, boosting those firms’ profits but
creating component shortages for electronics OEMs and forcing price
pass-throughs.
