June 26 — The Ministry of Natural Resources’ National Marine Environmental
Forecasting Center said its domestically developed global marine heatwave
forecast product entered operational service on June 26. Marine heatwaves are
defined as sea surface temperatures exceeding the local climatological mean for
five consecutive days. The product forecasts onset, evolution and decay, spatial
extent and and intensity changes of marine heatwaves worldwide over the coming
week, and is intended to improve China’s marine heatwave hazard prediction and
emergency response capabilities.
