June 28 — Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the CPCA, said China auto imports in
May 2026 totaled 38,000 units, down 19% YoY; January–May imports were 160,000
units, down 11% YoY. He cited the rise of domestic brands and accelerated
localization by international manufacturers as drivers of sustained weakness in
imports. Imported cars have recorded three consecutive years of negative growth;
smoothing out volatility would imply eight straight years of decline.
