Mining company Greenland Resources said on Monday Canada has provided a CAD 7 mln non-repayable grant (~$4.93 mln) for its molybdenum project. Molybdenum, used in aerospace, energy and defense, is listed as a critical mineral by the EU and US. Greenland Resources said Canada is the first G7 government to invest in a Greenland mining project, highlighting rising Western interest in the island’s strategic mineral resources.

The Observer reports UK prime minister Starmer, who recently resigned as Labour Party leader, may seek the NATO secretary-general post when Rutte’s term ends in 2028. The role requires unanimous approval from all 32 member states and candidates are vetted through informal consultations among members. Report says Starmer would need backing from the UK government — including a good relationship with the new UK prime minister — and strong political deal-making skills, which are widely viewed as a weakness.
