The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, reports
95-year-old Warren Buffett has, for the first time in 20 years, paused his
routine midyear donation to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation while awaiting
results of an investigation into the foundation’s ties to the late sex offender
Jeffrey Epstein. Sources say Buffett will defer a decision until later this
year, possibly until the release of his Thanksgiving letter. As Berkshire
Hathaway chairman he typically donates Berkshire stock worth tens of billions of
dollars each June or early July under a lifetime pledge made when he formed a
close partnership with the Gates Foundation. Insiders add the pause is not
expected to affect his annual donations to his family foundation.
