NATO secretary-general Rutte said ahead of the summit that Europe and Canada have placed about $300bn of orders for U.S. weapons, supporting roughly 195,000 U.S. defense jobs. He said the orders will be fulfilled over the coming years and described the buying surge as both a modernization of long-neglected European forces and support for Ukraine. Rutte urged transatlantic arms manufacturers to use the roughly $250bn increase in European and Canadian defence spending over the past two years to speed production rather than raise prices.

Indian rupee slipped below 95 per US dollar, down 0.4% intraday.
