Prime Minister Mark Carney said the federal government has formally submitted a proposal to the Major Projects Office to advance a West Coast oil pipeline routing Alberta crude to the British Columbia coast. The project, to be developed by Trans Mountain with Pembina Pipeline as a private investor, is designed for about 1.0 mln bpd and aims to deliver Canadian crude to global markets; Ottawa and Alberta signed an MOU in Nov 2025 and a project implementation agreement in May 2026.

July 3 — Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a regular briefing that the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's 2026 report on international fisheries management and its 'determination' under US domestic law lack factual and international legal basis and are intended to maliciously suppress China's distant‑water fishing. China expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition and said the US should self‑examine rather than smear China.
