Ministry of Agriculture monitoring of 500 county markets and collection points
shows national live hog price averaged 10.48 yuan/kg in the week of Jul 1 (Jun
29–Jul 5), up 4.2% WoW; pork market price averaged 19.82 yuan/kg, up 1.0% WoW.
Monitoring of 200 wholesale markets put national pork wholesale average at 14.50
yuan/kg, up 1.2% WoW and down 28.9% YoY. Analysts said earlier capacity-control
measures are beginning to show, and both large-scale farms and backyard
producers are delaying sales in anticipation of higher prices, tightening supply
and supporting hog prices; seasonal weak consumption is constraining gains.
Outlook: hog and pork prices expected steady to modestly higher this week.
