China announced on July 8 in Beijing that academicians Chen Liquan and Ben De received the 2025 National Highest Science and Technology Award. Chen (b.1940) is a researcher at the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and a pioneer in lithium‑battery research; Ben (b.1938) is a researcher at China Electronics Technology Group and a founding figure in airborne pulse‑Doppler, phased‑array and space‑based surveillance radar; both are academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The 2025 national science and technology awards covered 258 projects and 11 experts: two National Highest Science and Technology Awards; 51 National Natural Science Awards (3 first prizes, 48 second prizes); 58 National Technological Invention Awards (3 first prizes, 55 second prizes); 149 National Science and Technology Progress Awards (3 special prizes, 13 first prizes, 133 second prizes); and nine recipients of the China International Science and Technology Cooperation Award.

A-share banking sector traded with choppy gains; Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, China Construction Bank, Chengdu Bank and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China all advanced.
