Iranian foreign ministry spokesman BAGHAEI said Iran and Oman's foreign
ministers met in Muscat on the 11th to discuss a coordination mechanism for
navigation and transit management of the Strait of Hormuz. Legal and technical
delegations attended; talks covered shipping safety, sovereignty, international
law and Article 5 of the Islamabad MoU. BAGHAEI said Iran insists future
navigation-management arrangements should be negotiated bilaterally with Oman
and should fully account for recent months' US and Israeli military actions and
their impact on Hormuz shipping safety. Iran and Oman agreed to continue
political, legal and technical consultations to reach a common understanding;
Qatar participated in parts of the discussions.
