KOSPI fell intraday below 7,000, triggering the seventh circuit breaker of the
year after renewed US–Iran geopolitical tensions spurred heavy foreign and
institutional selling. Foreign investors net sold 2.23 tln won and institutions
net sold about 570 bln won; retail investors net bought roughly 2.7 tln won. The
National Pension Service was a buyer, net purchasing about 220 bln won. The
market hit a program‑trading pause (sidecar) in the morning and a circuit
breaker in the afternoon. Year‑to‑date there have been 17 buy‑triggered and 18
sell‑triggered sidecar activations, 35 in total.
