Iran's embassy in the UK said on the 13th on social media that the southern
navigation lane of the Strait of Hormuz is "unsafe, unreliable and prone to
accidents." The embassy, noting Iran's ambassador to the UK also serves as its
permanent representative to the IMO, said Iran has set up a temporary maritime
security corridor to comply with an Islamabad MoU, that corridor has no
technical or military barriers and has been notified to the IMO. It accused the
United States of directing ships onto a dangerous southern parallel route whose
legality is doubtful and which is unsafe, and said US attacks on Iranian ports
and other "acts of military aggression" have made the Strait a highly tense,
high-risk area.
