CNN reported President Trump said the US may impose a 20% security transit fee
on ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Last month, US Secretary of State
Rubio, on a late‑June visit to three Gulf states, said the Strait is an
international waterway and charging ships "is fundamentally not feasible,"
questioning how payments would be enforced and warning that using force against
non‑payers would make such a mechanism impractical and dangerous. Iran has said
it would not levy a transit fee but might charge for related services.
