SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son said at the SoftBank World conference in Tokyo
that nuclear fusion will become a new, cheaper, cleaner and safer primary energy
source and could replace natural gas for AI data centers within about 15 years.
He said natural gas will still supply most data-center power in the near term
but predicted global data-center installed capacity will reach 3 TW by 2040. Son
added that the large capital outlays for data-center infrastructure will
ultimately pay off and dismissed questions of an AI investment bubble as
"extremely stupid," saying critics do not understand or use AI.
