Think tank Ember said solar accounted for 25% of EU power generation in June, a
monthly record and the single largest generation source for the month,
surpassing nuclear and natural gas. Ember said the share has risen from about
10% five years earlier as member states accelerated solar-panel installations.
In Spain, a European leader in solar deployment, solar provided more than
one-third of national electricity supply in June. Ember analyst Chris Rosslowe
said solar has moved from a marginal role to an indispensable part of Europe’s
power system as governments and consumers seek low-cost, easily deployed
domestic generation.
