The Ministry of Natural Resources said China will reform its 25-year-old land‑reserve system as urbanization shifts from an expansion to a stock phase. Vice Minister Zhang Wentong said the system will move from concentrating on single plots and near-term economic value to district‑level, multi‑resource management (land, forest, mineral) that balances economic, social and ecological value. Land reserves will be used beyond supplying vacant development plots to raise infrastructure and urban functions, improve living environments and support job creation.

Mercer said the estimated funded status of pension plans sponsored by S&P 1500 companies fell 1 percentage point in June to 109% following US equity declines. Mercer estimates the aggregate surplus fell $7.0 bln to $139.0 bln at end-June from $146.0 bln at end-May.
