Hong Kong stocks climbed into the midday session. The Hang Seng Index was up 1.46% and the Hang Seng Tech Index rose 1.39% at the break. Life-science tools and biotech led sector gains; passenger airlines were among the laggards. China's National Bureau of Statistics released 1H data. Chen Wenling, senior researcher at the Contemporary China and World Research Institute, identified three market-relevant features: concurrent repair of existing stock and creation of new output — steady restoration of existing capacity amid a complex external environment alongside significant new output led by emerging productivity drivers; an overlay of stock-focused and incremental policies that materially supported economic repair and growth; and external-oriented growth running in parallel with domestic structural optimization. She described her overall assessment of 1H as strong and improving.
