Bloter reports sources say Samsung Electronics has begun internal research on
various US ADR issuance options and is assessing related operational processes.
Bloomberg reported on July 14 that Samsung held preliminary talks with several
investment banks about a US ADR listing; Samsung replied it is not considering
listing in the US via ADRs. Market participants note the denial does not rule
out future ADR issuance. Company business units, at management direction, have
started evaluating potential costs, benefits and required procedures.
Semiconductor-industry sources on July 15 said management recently asked teams
to study whether a viable ADR structure can be designed. As part of the review,
Samsung personnel consulted SK Hynix, which recently completed an ADR issuance
and Nasdaq listing.
