Nokia said it and NVIDIA have developed what it describes as the first
commercial AI-driven radio access network (RAN) platform. Nokia said the
platform could enable operators to double data transmission capacity on existing
infrastructure by 2028. With hardware shipments to operators slated to start
next year, Nokia expects spectrum efficiency to improve about 50%. The platform
includes three new hardware products plus a software component, supports Open
RAN interoperability and, via software upgrades, could be made compatible with
as-yet-unfinalized 6G standards.
