BofA said technology-driven retirements of older fabs will limit South Korea's
annual wafer capacity growth to under 10%, well short of the official 2030
doubling target. BofA estimates SK Hynix's incremental memory capacity through
2028 could be only one-sixth of its original plan. Construction and
equipment-installation cycles for large new Samsung and SK Hynix wafer fabs in
Gwangju and Jeollanam-do could stretch to as long as ten years.
