On July 14 the UK Met Office said 2025 was the warmest year in the UK since
records began in 1884 and that extreme weather is becoming increasingly
commonplace. Met Office climate information scientist Kendon said 2025 is the
sixth time in the 21st century the country's annual mean temperature record has
been broken. An analysis by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
estimated two heatwaves in May and June in England and Wales may have caused
more than 2,700 deaths.
