Douglas Kim of Douglas Research Advisory said SK Hynix's successful US ADR
listing removes a key hurdle that may have delayed Samsung Electronics' ADR
plans — notably complex accounting treatment. SK Hynix completed its ADR
issuance without major accounting issues, which should ease related concerns.
Kim said if Samsung relies solely on a Korea-only listing and internal cash for
funding, it could be disadvantaged in capex competition. He added SK Hynix ADRs
currently trade at a premium to its Korea-listed shares; if that premium
persists, Samsung's incentive to list in the US would grow.
