Shanghai, July 18, 2026 — China foreign minister Wang Yi met Lesotho foreign minister Tao, who attended the World Artificial Intelligence Conference and signed on behalf of the Lesotho government an agreement to establish the World AI Cooperation Organization. Wang said no country, especially developing ones, should be left behind in AI development and presented the new body as a China-driven initiative to boost capacity in the Global South and promote AI for beneficial uses. He said China will continue to support Lesotho’s sovereignty, security and development, encourage Chinese firms to invest in Lesotho, and welcome more Lesotho exports to China.
