Prime Minister Mark Carney said on July 18 Canada is facing one of its most severe wildfire seasons amid extreme heat and record drought and the government has launched an all‑hands mobilization. More than 5,300 firefighters and nearly 300 aircraft have been deployed; the interdepartmental wildland fire centre reported 3,815 fires YTD and over 2.9 mln ha burned. Rising temperatures and more frequent heatwaves linked to global climate change have heightened fire risk, and wildfire smoke has degraded air quality across Canada and parts of the US Northeast.

Shanxi provincial government office issued a 2026–2030 action plan to expand and upgrade the province's service sector. By 2028 the plan aims for producer services to move up the value chain toward greater specialization and high-end functions, to establish replicable integration models linking advanced manufacturing and modern services, and to develop higher-quality, diversified, convenient consumer services alongside new digitalized, integrated service formats. By 2030 it targets clear gains in service quality and efficiency, faster growth in service R&D and innovation, cultivation of leading firms and competitive service brands, rising high-value service trade exports, and service sector value-added aimed to surpass 1.8 trillion yuan as a high-quality, efficient service system is formed.
