New prime minister Andy Burnham said the government is studying measures including a rent freeze, cuts to energy bills and lower bus fares to ease cost-of-living pressures. The government will announce measures on Tuesday; details are still being finalised. Burnham said all options were under consideration but it was too early to say which specific measures would be taken, and warned the steps would not solve all problems though they would signal the government’s intent to help households.
