Samsung Electronics said on Tuesday it will create a robotics division called RX
(Robotics eXperience) reporting directly to the CEO to accelerate R&D and
commercialization and build robotics into a new growth engine. RX will oversee
mid-to-long-term strategy, core technology R&D and business execution and expand
domestic and overseas research capacity. Executive Vice President Lee Dongkun,
who previously led Hyundai Motor Group’s robot strategy including work on Boston
Dynamics’ development direction, will lead the robotics strategy team. Samsung
plans robotics research centers in the US, China and Japan to tap local
ecosystems and expertise.
