July 20 — The U.S. State Department issued a global security alert warning of elevated risk from escalating Middle East tensions and possible sudden deterioration in the security environment. U.S. citizens in the Middle East were urged to remain highly vigilant and to be prepared for flight cancellations, temporary airspace closures and other travel disruptions; those outside the region were advised to reconsider travel to or through the area. U.S. diplomatic facilities, including sites outside the Middle East, have been identified as potential targets. The advisory said Iran and its proxies may target U.S. overseas interests, U.S.-related sites worldwide or U.S. citizens.
