On July 21 the national major scientific infrastructure High-Intensity Heavy-Ion
Accelerator Facility (HIAF) on Huizhou's Renping Peninsula passed expert-panel
acceptance, marking the completion and start of trial operation of the world's
first advanced heavy-ion research facility combining a superconducting linear
accelerator, synchrotron and storage ring. HIAF has begun scientific research,
providing China with a domestically controlled, internationally leading
heavy-ion research platform and filling a key gap in basic nuclear-science
research in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area and nationally.
