At a routine briefing the Taiwan Affairs Office commented on reports that TSMC
plans to increase U.S. investment by $100 billion, including four additional
wafer fabs and an advanced packaging facility in Arizona. The move has revived
concerns in Taiwan about industry relocation and the hollowing out of the
island’s semiconductor sector. Spokesperson Zhang Han blamed the DPP’s pro‑U.S.
policies for damaging Taiwan’s economy, accusing the authority of selling out
industrial interests and hollowing the island’s economic base, and said the
outcome would harm both industry prospects and residents’ livelihoods.
