On July 21 local time, US President Trump met Lebanon’s President Michel Aoun. Trump said relations were cordial and they had previously communicated via intermediaries, and that the US will provide assistance after what he described as Lebanon’s long-standing unfair treatment. He said they would discuss the Lebanese army taking over villages vacated by Hezbollah, that the US has very specific plans and expects other parties to contribute assistance, and that he would engage with Hezbollah if Aoun requests.

China foreign minister Wang Yi met a cross-party delegation from the European Parliament foreign affairs committee. Wang said history and present realities show China and the EU are partners, not rivals, with deeply intertwined interests, and that they share similar stances on multilateralism, support for the UN and free trade. He urged both sides to treat the relationship as a partnership when addressing bilateral issues, avoid politicizing economic and trade matters or securitizing exchanges, and promote a long-term upward dynamic balance in China-EU trade. Wang said China is willing to strengthen coordination with Europe on global affairs to advance an orderly multipolar world and inclusive globalization, contributing to global peace, stability and prosperity.
