The Trump administration is exploring the possibility of deploying nuclear power
projects within 3.2 bln acres of U.S. federal waters. The Department of the
Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and the NRC said on
Wednesday they reached an agreement to strengthen cooperation in evaluating
deployment of offshore/subsea nuclear plants. BOEM said there are currently no
approved or planned commercial nuclear reactors in federal waters; the agreement
is intended to assess whether and how the technology could be responsibly
implemented in the future.
