The SEC approved a Nasdaq rule change to accelerate removal of weak issuers:
Nasdaq-listed securities with market value below $5 million for 30 consecutive
days will face immediate suspension and delisting with limited appeal rights.
The tighter threshold is aimed at microcap and penny-stock markets amid
regulator concerns over sharp volatility and manipulation, including
tech-enabled pump-and-dump schemes. The SEC said low-priced, low-market-cap
stocks require less capital to manipulate and are therefore more susceptible to
manipulation and extreme swings.
