On the 23rd the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said three tankers it
accused of being instigated by the US were blocked while attempting to transit a
lane south of the Strait of Hormuz where sea mines were being laid; one vessel
exploded and caught fire and the other two turned back. The IRGC said it has
taken control of and "completely sealed" the Strait and warned that, amid
continued US "provocations", no tankers may enter or leave. It added any vessels
it says are "misled by the US" attempting uncoordinated passage without Iran's
coordination would face the same consequences.
