Sinopec said China’s first national demonstration zone for lacustrine
fault-basin shale oil — the Shengli Jiyang shale-oil demonstration zone in
Shandong — has been completed. The zone covers about 7,300 sq km and achieved a
major exploration breakthrough in 2021, filling a gap in national demonstration
construction for this play. Sinopec said the project provides a replicable,
scalable technical pathway for large-scale, higher-efficiency development of
similar shale-oil resources. Shengli oilfield has steadily increased block
capacity, with daily oil output rising from roughly 100 tonnes initially to more
than 2,400 tonnes, a marked improvement in development quality and efficiency.
