Six unmanned aerial vehicles attacked Erbil, capital of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region,
on the 24th, a security source told Xinhua. Five were intercepted and shot down
near Erbil International Airport; a sixth crashed into farmland and sparked a
fire that civil defense teams extinguished. Explosions were heard over the city.
A military base hosting US-led coalition forces is located near the airport, and
the US consulate in Erbil has faced repeated drone attacks in recent days.
