China foreign minister Wang Yi met Russian foreign minister Lavrov on the 24th
on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization foreign ministers'
meeting in Kyrgyzstan. They agreed to follow leaders' consensus, pursue
independent development and deepen comprehensive strategic coordination and
mutual trust, and to plan further high-level exchanges to sustain pragmatic
cooperation. Wang called for strengthened strategic coordination to safeguard
World War II victory outcomes and said Japan must not be allowed to rearm. He
also urged closer multilateral coordination, expecting continued Russian support
for APEC’s China Year activities and reciprocal backing in the United Nations
and other multilateral forums.
