A spokesman for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the latest round of hostilities resulted from a US breach of an agreement on passage through the Strait of Hormuz. He said the deal required transit to follow Iran’s rules but the US announced an alternative transit route; after that alleged breach the IRGC blocked vessels and struck ships it judged to be violating the terms. The spokesman said Iran had expected the US to resume compliance but that the US instead attacked Iranian coastlines, islands and some radars. He added the IRGC’s strikes were intended to compel US compliance and that it had launched Operation "Victory 2".
