Writing in The Washington Post, President Lula criticized recent U.S. tariff pressure on Brazil. He said negotiations and a U.S. Supreme Court ruling annulled the initial tariff measures introduced in July last year, but in July this year the U.S. imposed new tariffs of 12.5%–37.5%. Lula called the new duties unfair and a strategic error, saying they harm the U.S. economy and the bilateral partnership and will, over the medium to long term, disrupt highly integrated supply chains as Brazilian firms replace U.S. suppliers with other partners.

On July 26, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Finance and Provincial Department of Emergency Management urgently allocated 50 mln yuan in provincial natural disaster relief funds for emergency response to Typhoon Hongxia. The funds will support Huizhou, Shanwei, Jieyang, Meizhou and Heyuan for emergency rescue and relief to affected residents, procurement and transport of relief supplies, inspection and emergency remediation of secondary hazards, and repair and reconstruction of damaged housing to limit impact and protect lives and property.
