The Wall Street Journal reports NVIDIA (NVDA.O) is investing in an AI lab founded by OpenAI’s former chief scientist Ilya Sutskever. The long-term deal reportedly involves a substantial, undisclosed investment and will give Sutskever’s Safe Superintelligence extensive access to NVIDIA’s flagship GPUs—enough to increase the startup’s compute by “an order of magnitude”—after the firm had primarily relied on Google’s TPUs; the arrangement also helps NVIDIA fend off competitors.
