Volkswagen said on its 1H 2026 results call that management board chairman and CEO Oliver Blume did not explicitly call for EU tariffs on hybrids imported from China. Blume advocated a comprehensive review of options to preserve fair competition between Europe and other regions, including supporting Chinese automakers’ local production in Europe, and said any EU tariff, if imposed, should not exceed the current rate applied to battery-electric vehicles.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and seven other ministries launched a 'one‑stop' special action to support innovation policies for technology firms, targeting high‑tech enterprise evaluation and certification. The initiative will push data sharing, optimize administrative systems, strengthen information verification and raise certification efficiency. MIIT has set up a coordination mechanism to clear bottlenecks; local high‑tech certification authorities will lead implementation with regional industry and information, science, finance, emergency management, tax, market supervision and intellectual property departments coordinating.
