Responding to US reports that Washington is concerned about China deploying
undersea fiber‑optic cables in the Pacific, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian
said at a July 28 briefing that international submarine cables are critical
civilian infrastructure key to global connectivity and the welfare of people
worldwide. He warned that politicizing or securitizing the issue would undermine
normal international market rules, threaten global data interconnectivity and
cybersecurity, and serve no one's interest.
