MOFCOM foreign trade department head He Shaojun said China does not deliberately
pursue a trade surplus and will continue to promote balanced import and export
development, keep markets open and firmly expand imports. In 1H, goods imports
rose 22.1% YoY, clearly outpacing exports. China remains the world’s
second-largest import market, with large-scale demand providing strong momentum
for trading partners. Since last year China launched the Export China brand and
plans to hold more than 100 import-promotion events annually; overseas Export
China events have produced intended procurement agreements between Chinese and
local firms, broadening sourcing channels and easing market access for foreign
companies.
