Business Insider, citing people familiar with the matter, reports Amazon
(AMZN.O) is overhauling its AI strategy: winding down numerous internal text,
image and video models, reorganizing teams, and concentrating engineers and
limited compute on a single priority program called Frontier Model Research
(FMR). The company is phasing out flagship models including Premier and Omni,
the Reel video generator and Canvas image generator, and reallocating resources
from its Nova model into FMR, led by researcher Pete Abbeel. Employees describe
the retired models as in KTLO (keep-the-lights-on) status. Amazon is developing
a new flagship base model under FMR, currently its top priority and expected to
debut at this fall’s re:Invent conference.
