{"title":"China's defense ministry: Japan's nuclear ambitions must not be tolerated; challenges to red lines unacceptable","content":"At a July 30 afternoon regular briefing, China's defense ministry spokesman Senior Colonel Jiang Bin called remarks by Japan's defense minister provocative and dangerous and said they risk testing public opinion to prepare for illicit moves. He said Japan is an internationally recognized nuclear‑threshold state, holding about 44.4 tonnes of separated plutonium and deliberately preserving the capability for a short‑notice nuclear breakout. Jiang warned that any attempt to abandon the "Three Non‑Nuclear Principles" would contravene legal obligations under the Treaty on the Non‑Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), severely undermine the global non‑proliferation regime and threaten the outcome of World War II and the postwar international order. He said Japan's nuclear ambitions must not be tolerated, violations of red lines must be firmly deterred, and that opening a "Pandora's box" would have unforeseeable, grave consequences, urging heightened vigilance and resolute prevention by the international community and domestic stakeholders."}
