Southbound flows recorded a net sell of 8.571 bln yuan today. Via Shanghai Stock Connect, Tracker Fund of Hong Kong and Pop Mart were net sold HKD 1.972 bln and HKD 385 mln respectively; Tencent Holdings was the top net buy at HKD 444 mln. Via Shenzhen Stock Connect, SMIC and Alibaba-W were net sold HKD 1.376 bln and HKD 993 mln respectively; Tencent was the top net buy at HKD 568 mln.

DBS senior FX strategist Philip Wee said the dollar could be pressured by divergence in forward guidance after the Fed removed forward guidance and held rates steady. Wee said Fed chair Kevin Warsh’s move has left policy in a “monetary mirror maze,” increasing volatility and leaving markets groping in the dark. By contrast, the ECB’s unified signalling of a September rate hike gives the euro a clear relative advantage. If the Bank of England breaks consensus and unexpectedly hikes later today, the pound would likely strengthen.
