July 31 — FIFA said it will continue consultations on a proposal to create a $20bn subsidiary to run the World Cup and other tournaments and sell minority stakes to private investors, despite strong opposition led by UEFA. FIFA said the consultation process had been disrupted by inaccurate media reports and will proceed so member associations can vote based on the facts. The plan, proposed by President Gianni Infantino, is pitched as a way to unlock previously untapped commercial value and increase funding for member associations.
