July 31 — At a regular foreign ministry briefing, CHINA said it had noted media reports that the US is planning military action against Cuba, including blockades, air strikes and ground invasion. CHINA urged Washington to immediately stop threatening Cuba with force and to end any unilateral blockades or sanctions, and said it will continue to support Cuba’s sovereignty and oppose external interference.

IBM (IBM.N) said on Thursday its research indicates quantum computers have reached "quantum advantage" — able to perform tasks beyond the reach of classical computers with results that can be rigorously verified. The work appears in three papers by IBM and partners including the University of Chicago, RIKEN and quantum software firms Qedma, BlueQubit and Algorithmiq. Jay Gambetta, head of IBM Research, said "We have entered the quantum advantage era. Scientists can rely on the results. The focus has shifted from benchmarking systems to using them for scientific research and exploring practical applications."
